FAQs

Frequently asked questions
about sinus lifts

Is a sinus lift uncomfortable?

Most patients only experience a little discomfort after a sinus lift. You might have some swelling and experience some light bleeding from your nose or mouth in the days immediately following the treatment.

How soon after a sinus lift can have dental implants?

The amount of time between your surgery and getting your implants placed depends on how much bone was needed for your sinus life. Your dentist will let you know when they will be able to place your implants, but it can vary from a few months up to a year, to give the new bone time to merge correctly with your existing bone.

The sinus lift treatment

Sometimes called a sinus augmentation, a sinus lift adds bone to your upper jaw in the area of your molars and premolars.

A sinus lift is a safe and clinically proven procedure and when completed with expertise and care it will provide the best, most stable base for life changing implant surgery. As with any surgical procedure, at Clifton Moor Dental Centre we will explain the full treatment process and journey, from consultation to aftercare and check back with you regularly to ensure that the healing is going smoothly.

Step 1

Your dentist here in York will assess the suitability of your sinuses, this may include taking scans and x-rays.

Step 2

If your dentist agrees that a sinus lift is a suitable treatment for you, they will discuss the options for acquiring the new bone material. Similarly to a bone graft procedure, these can include taking bone from the patient, from other tissue sources (human or animal), or using synthetic bone.

Step 3

The sinus lift procedure will be performed by your dentist while you are under general anaesthetic, to ensure a pain-free procedure. Once the site is healed you are ready for dental implants.
