Great dentists. I've been registered her for a few years and had my first 'emergency' this week. They fitted me in quick and we're super friendly and helpful. My dentist Andrew Coward explained everything and put me at ease. Huge thanks to all the team.

What to do next

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or are unsure if you need an emergency appointment, call our team for help and advice.

If you are not in need of an urgent appointment but are experiencing non-urgent symptoms such as a cracked or chipped tooth, mild toothache or a missing crown or filling, you should still contact us so we can get you booked in as soon as possible, and advise you on what to do in the meantime.

Helping with dental pain in the meantime

While you are waiting for your emergency appointment at our York practice, there may be some steps you can take to help relieve some of the pain and discomfort you are feeling.

One

Take some painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol, remembering to always follow the instructions on the pack.

Two

Try dissolving a teaspoon of salt in a cup of boiling water to use as a warm mouthwash to relieve irritation and reduce any swelling.

Three

If you have knocked a tooth out, put it in a glass of milk and bring it to your appointment.

Four

If you are experiencing pain around one specific tooth, something may have got stuck between your teeth or inside the gum tissue. Use a cold compress to help reduce swelling and numb irritation.
