The receptionist staff are always lovely, really friendly, and do the little touches like saying goodbye when leaving, and it makes a difference. It’s the same with the dental assistants, who make conversation on the way and smile, again helping make me feel valued as a customer. Then, Perminder, my dentist, and Kanwal, my hygienist, are superb. Both experts with a genuine passion for their respective roles, and both are only too happy to answer any questions and help not only maintain but improve teeth and oral hygiene. It’s a cracking dentist’s, and on the monthly plan, it’s great value, too. I would and do highly recommend.

Bridging the gap left by missing teeth

A conventional bridge can be used if you have natural, healthy teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. Often crafted from porcelain, the prosthetic tooth is supported by dental crowns bonded to the adjacent teeth. A resin-retained bridge sits over the gum, held in place with a metal wire which is bonded to adjacent teeth.

At Clifton Moor Dental Centre, every dental bridge is custom-made to match the appearance of your existing teeth, making them virtually invisible. Eating and speaking become easier and you can enjoy a full smile again. At our York practice we are dedicated to helping you achieve your oral health and smile goals. Our dental team has decades of experience in creating healthy, happy smiles. Book a consultation to find out more.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about dental bridge

Will it be difficult to eat with a dental bridge in place?

Replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge should actually make eating easier. Until you get used to the bridge being in place, it might be useful to eat soft foods cut into small pieces. This should only be a short-term solution and it won’t be long at all before you have the confidence to enjoy the food you love.

Is it easy to care for dentures?

Dental bridges can last from five to 15 years, or even longer. With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, it is not unusual for the life-span of a fixed bridge to be well over 15 years.

How do I take care of my dental bridge?

It is important to keep your remaining teeth healthy and strong, as the success of the bridge relies on the solid foundation provided by the surrounding teeth. Brushing twice a day and flossing daily helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease that can lead to tooth loss.

What does the treatment for a dental bridge involve?

After consultation with your dentist here in York, if you decide a dental bridge is right for you, we will agree on a bespoke treatment plan for you. A dental bridge is generally completed over at least two appointments.

Step 1

During your first treatment appointment for a conventional dental bridge, your dentist will gently and carefully shape the teeth adjacent to the gap to accept new crowns to support the bridge. When the supporting teeth have been prepared, we will take dental impressions of your teeth, for use by the dental lab to make your new bridge.

Step 2

Once made, you will need to return to the practice to have the bridge fitted, using a strong dental cement.

Step 3

We would recommend you attend regular dental hygiene sessions here at Clifton Moor to care for your new bridge appropriately, so that you have the confidence to smile for years to come.

Is a dental bridge right for me?

A dental bridge can be an effective and virtually invisible replacement for missing teeth, if the adjacent teeth are strong and healthy. If your natural teeth have already had dental restoration treatment or you have gum or oral health issues, your dentist may consider other treatment options. Book an appointment today to begin your journey to a complete smile at Clifton Moor Dental Centre.

Improve your smile with a dental crown

While dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth, a dental crown could be a good solution if you have a tooth that is broken, weakened or decayed. If you have had root canal treatment, your Clifton Moor dentist may recommend a crown to protect or cap the restored tooth, allowing you to eat and bite down on it comfortably.

Crowns are also used to anchor a bridge or denture firmly in place and they’re a great way to make teeth with large fillings look more natural, giving you more confidence in your smile. Our CEREC 3D CAD-CAM technology means our dentists can make and fit perfectly matching ceramic crowns in a single visit.
